Chính quyền Hoa Kỳ đã triệu hồi gần 30 đại sứ chuyên nghiệp và đặc phái viên cấp cao tại 29 quốc gia. Đa số đến từ châu Phi (13 nước như Nigeria, Senegal), châu Á (6 nước bao gồm Philippines, Việt Nam), châu Âu (4 nước như Armenia), và nhiều nơi khác.
Tổng thống Trump muốn định hình lại lập trường ngoại giao của Mỹ ở nước ngoài, bổ nhiệm những người hoàn toàn ủng hộ các ưu tiên "Nước Mỹ trên hết". Họ không bị sa thải, mà chỉ bị điều chuyển đến các vị trí ở Washington DC. Bộ Ngoại giao cho biết đó là một đặc quyền thông thường của tổng thống. (Newsmax, AP)
Đại sứ Mỹ hiện nay tại Việt Nam là Marc E. Knapper (do Tổng thống Biden bổ nhiệm năm 2021, nhậm chức từ 2022).
Tháng 10/2025, Trump đã đề cử bà Jennifer Wicks McNamara, làm Đại sứ Đặc mệnh Toàn quyền Mỹ tại Việt Nam. Do đó, hiện nay vị trí Đại sứ Mỹ tại Việt Nam đang trong quá trình chuyển tiếp hoặc đã bị thu hồi. Bà Jennifer Wicks đã có phiên điều trần trước Ủy ban Đối ngoại Thượng viện Mỹ vào ngày 11/12/2025. Tuy nhiên, đề cử này vẫn chưa được Thượng viện xác nhận (confirmed) đầy đủ và chưa được bổ nhiệm chính thức.
Jennifer Wicks là một nhà ngoại giao sự nghiệp (nhà ngoại giao chuyên nghiệp cấp cao nhất) với gần 31 năm kinh nghiệm trong chính phủ Mỹ, chủ yếu tại Bộ Ngoại giao. Trước khi được bổ nhiệm, bà là Giám đốc Văn phòng Bổ nhiệm Tổng thống (Director of the Office of Presidential Appointments) thuộc Bộ Ngoại giao, một vị trí quan trọng liên quan đến việc bổ nhiệm nhân sự cấp cao. CANDIDATE: Jennifer Wicks McNamara
Jennifer Wicks is currently the Director of the Office of Presidential Appointments, a high-profile position, which she has held since November 2012 serving four different Presidential administrations. In this role, she routinely engages with senior officials at the White House and the Department of State. A career Civil Service employee with nearly 31 years of experience in the U.S. government, her previous Department of State positions include Chief of Staff in the Office of U.S. Foreign Assistance Resources, Senior Advisor for Legislative and Public Affairs to the Under Secretary of State for Management, and Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of State for Administration. Additionally, Ms. Wicks is an adjunct executive leadership coach with the National Foreign Affairs Training Center’s Leadership and Management School.
Ms. Wicks began her U.S. government career with the U.S. Army in Seoul, South Korea and subsequently worked in different leadership and management roles for the Army in Hawaii and Virginia. She is an innovative and strategic leader who successfully led major crosscutting initiatives to include modernizing the State Department’s diplomatic title policy to more accurately reflect today’s evolving diplomatic environment around the world and served in a key role planning for and executing the Department’s Presidential transition efforts. Ms. Wicks’ previous interagency and legislative experience along with deep understanding of policy and management issues make her well-qualified to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam.
Ms. Wicks received a Master of Science in National Security Strategy from the National War College in 2008 and a Master of Public Administration from The American University in 2003.
